Survivor benefits provide monthly payments to eligible family members of people who worked and paid Social Security taxes before they died.

Social Security can pay survivor benefits to children and to surviving parents caring for the children. The parent who died did not need to be living with or financially supporting the child.

Under certain circumstances, Social Security can also pay survivor benefits to married children, stepchildren, adopted children, grandchildren, and step grandchildren.

You can learn more and see if you may be eligible at the Social Security website.
