Helping moms protect their babies from the Hepatitis B virus

Hepatitis B (HEP-B) is a liver infection caused by a virus that can be passed from mother to baby at the baby’s birth. Not all people who have HEP-B realize they’re infected. Infection can be prevented with a vaccine.

The SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) provides case management to infected mothers and babies, providing testing, treatment, and vaccines to protect babies from getting HEP-B from their mothers.
